About Me

Juggling between my full time job as a marketing person, besides chasing after my dream of turning my passion into a profitable business venture. A tech-savvy marketing person who believes in the powers of online advertising, I dedicate lots of hours understanding, learning and getting my hands dirty on web technologies and graphical designs.

Sunday Morning at The Curve

We decided to go to The Curve today because I wanted to buy some groceries & household stuff at Tesco Mutiara Damansara today.  Hubby also brought along his camera because there is a Sony Centre there, which he wanted to send his lens for servicing.

When we reached there, we saw a huge crowd gathering outside The Curve, near the Starbucks at Borders.  When we went to take a look, then only did we realise that there is two Hong Kong celebrities there to promote their latest movie.  I can’t recall the name of the guy artiste, but the lady artiste was Bernice Liu (the spokesperson for Marie France).  I told hubby to take the opportunity in snapping some photographs of the artiste.  A lot of people also took the opportunity to take photos of the celebrities with their handphones, some with their instant cameras and there were two with professional camera (including hubby’s).  It was hot and it was held outdoors.  Amazing how the artiste can put up with the heat… talking & entertaining in the hot sun.  It ended at about 30 minutes.

Then we had our breakfast cum lunch at News Cafe - so that we could read some magazines as we are eating.   Haha… talk about being stingy.  Hubby then sent the lens for servicing at Sony Style.  It will take 5 days to do the servicing, then we have to pick it up from the same place.

I bought a couple of stuff at Tesco before we went home.  When we reached home, it was already close to 2PM.  There goes my Sunday!

Super Slow Internet Connection

As usual, weekends are the worst time of the week to be online.  That’s when the internet connection slows down to the level that even pages are not downloadable!  There are times when I think I should stop using Streamyx as the level of service is really lousy.  If you are experiencing any problem, try calling Streamyx and you’ll know what I mean.  If you ever get through, you’ll be greeted by someone who will never be able to solve your problem.

There are many other providers out there today that you can use.  They might not be perfect (who is anyway?), but at least with some competition, this will not mean that consumers can only opt for Streamyx for broadband.  There is Maxis, Digi and Izzi that provides broadband these days, and it comes in a handy mobile modem.

I’m thinking of switching and so is hubby.  I guess I am just too fed up when it comes to doing some work at home on weekends.

Bogged down by work

I’ve not been blogging much of late - my work has been over whelming, and when you have incompetent people working with you (or they are just completely lazy!) , you tend to be overworked from trying to cover up things that people are not able to finish.  I’ve gotten to the stage that I am completely tired, overworked and I just need a good rest.  I feel like I’ve worked for eternity because I’m handling a job scope of 3 - 4 pax!

I am still looking for a suitable marketing executive to assist me in taking care of the asia pacific business - which is pretty monotonous and manual.  Its getting very tiring trying to be everyone’s personal assistant, and trying to put my thinking cap to strategize plans towards promoting the products.  Its not easy to be doing everything for 3 different portfolios.

To add to all that, we have an incompetent business partner to handle one of our events.  I had a heated argument with the so called “business development director” recently over her choice of telesales personnel that she has sent for training.  How in the hell is a 18 year old going to sell a conference of RM6,000?  Some people have big sounding titles but a bird brain, really.  I am losing confidence in this business partner, though my boss ‘believes’ that they are capable.  I have said that we should go for a professional whom have proven themselves (I have someone in mind..) but he said that this 2-man-show has got ‘good idea’ and can do it.  I am not sure to what extend, but from day 1 until now, everything is my work!  What is their contribution, only God knows!

Crazy day …

Its a crazy day really…meetings, endless assignments and duties.

Like I was telling hubby today, my work is piling up exponentially - 1, 2, 4, 16 …etc.  Goodness, and my productivity has slowed down of late, because of the additional two staff of mine that still need a lot of hand-holding.  On top of that, my graphic designer is still not able to work independently, so there is a lot of coaching that needs to be done.

All in all - its tiring me out, and giving me very little time to do my own work - planning, strategizing, thinking deep into all the three segments.  Boss asks me why I am slowing down and attribute it to my assistant who is not able to catch up with me on all my tasks.  I would look at it as a whole.  Since both staff are new, it will take a while before they are able to stand on their own feet.  For now, they still need to ask me, check with me on every thing.

Aih…

6 July Protest at Stadium Kelana Jaya

Myself and hubby plus two of hubby’s friends decided to turn up at the Protes gathering, which expected a turnout of 1 million. We reached at around 6pm, and were greeted by a crowd of about 5,000. The crowd then grew to about 20,000 to 30,000 after the night prayers.

No untoward incident happened, except for the crowd’s outrage when an entertainer performed an act where he showed his undergarment to the crowd. The organizers and Pakatan Rakyat leaders were quick to come in to control the situation.

There were no enforcement officers inside the stadium, except for the helicopter that was hovering around the stadium ground the whole night. We got a chance to see Lim Kit Siang and Anwar Ibrahim in person, besides the other leaders from the Pakatan Rakyat.

As to how the whole Protes is like, let the pictures tell the full story :

Protes : Kelana Jaya Rally

“Don’t go near Kelana Jaya today ok…”

That’s the advice of my mother who is hundreds of kilometres away from where I live. Being a mother, she was naturally worried for her children who are residing near to the purported “demonstration” that the local media has plastered across tv, newspapers and such.

I went over to Malaysiakini.com website earlier on to check on the status of the Kelana Jaya Rally (did you notice that its a rally, not a demonstration??) and there was 5,000 turnout this morning, and it has slowly increased to 10,000 by Noon. I saw the pictures, and it is a very peaceful gathering - with stalls selling memorabilia of the event and a turnout of all ages, all races. So, what with all these labelling of ‘demonstration’? I really don’t know, to be honest.

The purpose of the rally is to protest on the recent petrol hike, which have affected most of us, and especially the average and lower income group - which forms the largest group of rakyat in Malaysia.

Hubby asked me yesterday if he could go. Initially, I said no - fearing for his safety. But after seeing the pictures, not only will I allow him to go, I will be going as well! We will be going at 6PM today, equipped with our photography equipments to take photographs of the event - probably an event of a lifetime where its projected that a record 1 million people will gather at the 50,000-capacity Kelana Jaya Stadium. There are policeman stationed at the nearest Kelana Jaya LRT Station (according to Malaysiakini) and definately many more enforcement officers on standby everywhere else.

I will be posting up the pictures we will take later.

By the way, this is a poster I saw from the official site - but the venue has changed to Stadium Kelana Jaya.
