About Me

Juggling between my full time job as a marketing person, besides chasing after my dream of turning my passion into a profitable business venture. A tech-savvy marketing person who believes in the powers of online advertising, I dedicate lots of hours understanding, learning and getting my hands dirty on web technologies and graphical designs.

A good marketing person

I need a really good all-rounder marketing person to take over one of the portfolios that I’m handling. At the rate I’m going, I am going to face a very huge bottle neck problem very soon as I’m handling 3 different portfolios in terms of marketing and also the channel management for Asia Pacific.

In all small organizations, the marketing person has no choice but to do all “marketing-related” duties including writing speeches, press releases, execute the marketing plans, strategize marketing plans and all small other smaller details. Unlike larger organizations where there is a dedicated person to do Corporate Communcations, one to be in charge of Events, one to be in charge of Public Relations and one to be in charge of Marketing Activities. I’m looking for one who can do a little bit of everything, while still keeping a check on the overall marketing of the particular portfolio.

These days, its not easy to find an all-rounder because the person either specializes on one aspect and not on another. In reality, the position as a marketing person is a very demanding job… probably more demanding than any other similar positions in an organization. This person has to think on his feet, do things right the first time, must be creative & resourceful yet still keep his / her poise at all times.

The law of karma

Why in the hell with such a serious topic on a beautiful Saturday morning?

Yesterday, I found out that someone tried to pull a quick one on me by telling my colleague that I said blah-blah-blah.  This lady is an ex-colleague and has been trying her level best to get back at me even though I have left the company for months.  And she proclaimed that she’s God fearing, yet she’s doing all these back-stabbing.

It doesnt really matter what belief you have, but what goes around comes back to you.  And when she does this to me, I just have one thing in my mind.  If I don’t bother or interfere with her life, why is she bothered with mine?  Come to think of it, I guess its jealousy.  Our MD left the organization and asked me to join his new company, but did not extend the offer to her.  And after that I was promoted and had a sizeable increment.  Probably that’s why she is trying to get back at me?

Even before that, she is always saying bad things about me (eg.  that I am useless..etc).  Now that I’m no longer in the company, she still tries to do things to me.

The retribution will come.. not from me, but from the one above.  I’ll not do anything to her, coz I believe in the law of karma and I’ll let Him do what He’s suppose to do.

Email Etiquette

Recently, someone wrote an email to me - in bold, underlined and in a very ‘directive’ tone.  This person is not my boss, neither is the person anyone of any authority.

Some people just do not understand the fact that emails should be written as friendly as possible, as there is always a possibility of someone misintepreting the message.  A few rules to remember when writing emails :-

1.  Do not use CAPITAL letters, unless absolutely necessary. (eg. I HAVE THREE DAYS LEFT TO FINISH THE REPORT, PLEASE EXPEDITE YOUR RESPONSE)

2.  Do not BOLD, especially if you have CAPS on! (eg. REPLY ASAP OR YOU WILL MISS THE DEADLINE)

3.  Go easy on the exclamation marks (eg. Can you imagine the amount of work I have to do !!!!!!! )

4.  Don’t use combinations of too many exclamation, full stop and other marks (eg. Why are you doing this?!?!?!?!?!? )

5.  Watch your tone

Roborovski Hamster for Adoption

I’ve got a few enquiries on my Roborovski Hamsters, and I’m happy to announce that the babies should be ready for their new owners in a week or two.  So far, I have 3 babies which are about 2 months old, and 5 babies which are about 2 weeks old.  The 2 month old ones are very adorable and can live on their own now.  But the 5 little babies are still depending on their mummy for milk.  I notice that they are beginning to open their eyes already and can already climb up the higher level of the cage!

At the moment, my hamster count is 16 - half of which are adult hamsters.  They are very adorable and definately very attentive!  They wait patiently for me to give them food and look very pleased when I give them something different (vegetables, carrots, corn) other than their usual feed.

Any more takers for the adult hamsters?

Everyone deserves a chance

As a superior, I hold on to the principle that everyone of my staff deserves a chance, to show his or her maximum potential.  For one reason or another, I tend to have very high expectations on the new staff.  And it probably create a lot of tension for them.  Well, my bosses have even higher expectation on them as they view marketing as the heart of the operation - the team that will make or break the team.

Nevertheless, I will give them a chance, not once, not twice but as many times as required until they improve towards my expecation.  Marketing is definately not something easy, as many think.  When I see those people who apply for the job, they come with expectation that it is an easy job.  One that they can come at 9am and go back at 6pm.  In reality, marketing is a high-tension job, and you need to think on your feet at all times.  Most of the people whom I have interviewed thinks that they have some sort of flexibility to honeymoon as they work.  But when I told them of what to expect, most of them cannot meet the expectation to be an independent and self-starter in carrying out their duties.

These days, its not easy to get a good marketing person.  Good ones are few and expensive.  The ‘lying low fruits’ are cheaper but in terms of quality are not able to carry out the task of a marketing person.

Beautiful Krabi

This amazingly beautiful resort is a boutique resort in Koh Lanta Island, Layana Resort and Spa.  Hubby and myself has spoken about taking an overseas trip but we have yet to decide on where we plan to go.  Thailand seem like a good choice because of currency exchange, other places are pretty expensive and doesn’t seem to be value for money.
