Protes : Kelana Jaya Rally
“Don’t go near Kelana Jaya today ok…”
That’s the advice of my mother who is hundreds of kilometres away from where I live. Being a mother, she was naturally worried for her children who are residing near to the purported “demonstration” that the local media has plastered across tv, newspapers and such.
I went over to Malaysiakini.com website earlier on to check on the status of the Kelana Jaya Rally (did you notice that its a rally, not a demonstration??) and there was 5,000 turnout this morning, and it has slowly increased to 10,000 by Noon. I saw the pictures, and it is a very peaceful gathering - with stalls selling memorabilia of the event and a turnout of all ages, all races. So, what with all these labelling of ‘demonstration’? I really don’t know, to be honest.
The purpose of the rally is to protest on the recent petrol hike, which have affected most of us, and especially the average and lower income group - which forms the largest group of rakyat in Malaysia.
Hubby asked me yesterday if he could go. Initially, I said no - fearing for his safety. But after seeing the pictures, not only will I allow him to go, I will be going as well! We will be going at 6PM today, equipped with our photography equipments to take photographs of the event - probably an event of a lifetime where its projected that a record 1 million people will gather at the 50,000-capacity Kelana Jaya Stadium. There are policeman stationed at the nearest Kelana Jaya LRT Station (according to Malaysiakini) and definately many more enforcement officers on standby everywhere else.
I will be posting up the pictures we will take later.
By the way, this is a poster I saw from the official site - but the venue has changed to Stadium Kelana Jaya.
