I’ve been unwell for the past 2 weeks, losing appetite and losing weight. However, I started recovering in the last 3 days and my appetite has gotten the better of me. Hahaha.. I’m trying to make up for all the lost food over the last weeks.

Coughing has been bad… I’ve even resorted to isolating myself from the rest by sitting at the fourth floor, which also happens to be in front of the boss’s office. I’ve drank lots of water, ate all sorts of cough drops and seen the doctor thrice.

At the last, the doctor gave me a medication to treat the throat irritation and that medicine was so strong that it caused my hands to tremble. The effect was more than that, as I found out later, causing my nerves to behave weirdly. Once at night, I did a small stretch and I got cramped attack three times. The pain was so severe and it still hurts till now. The tremble was also inconvenient as I couldn’t write! I stopped the medication yesterday and things returned to normal… phew!

With the wake of AH1N1, people were also asking me whether I had contracted the deadly flu. I have not gone overseas and neither has anyone of my family returned from overseas - so … of course not. Morever, I got the cough from my 4 year old nephew.

Anyway, I’m moving down to my cubicle tomorrow because I’m much much better now.

No additional story or words were needed for the story of abandoned strays in a wild island off Pulau Ketam - this is plain inhumane. Letting these poor dogs to die in a deserted island is just unimaginable.

If you can offer any help at all, be it forwarding the above message, posting it in your blog, giving monetary contribution or be a volunteer or even adopting one of them & to love them, it would be great. As for me, I’ll be making a small donation to TV Smith, Sabrina Yeap and their team and my prayers go to them - for them to safely rescue these animals.

Happy Wesak Day to all.

And, while we are all enjoying our weekend, lets bear in mind that there are selfless volunteers who are putting their lives in danger to rescue these dogs whom some has left to die. Please help wherever we can.

UPDATE
I can’t believe this when I read this, but I’ll let you be the judge. These dogs were left to die using the Malaysian taxpayer’s money! Here’s the link

12 MAY 2009
I read and reread TV Smith and Sabrina Yeap’s pleas for assistance of any kind to rescue those poor helpless animals trapped in the island. I promise that I’ll wake up 20 minutes earlier tomorrow to go to CIMB and contribute a small donation to the good cause - from my parents (who are animal lovers) and myself. I’d want to volunteer and help however it is impossible at this moment due to work commitments. Thus, I’ll be going all out promoting via my facebook, blog and via mouth - to see whether there is anyone within my network who could help in any way at all.

I feel saddened, thinking about these poor dogs. They must be cold, hungry and in pain. Probably their heart aches even more thinking about how human has deserted them and leaving them to die. Everytime I think of it, the heart in me cry - if possible, I want to save every dog on the island and give them a life they truly deserve.

I’ve got cold, flu and cough… all at one go. The fever is gone after one terrible day at work - that made me feel like a zombie.

Even with all these, I was in Melaka with my boss on last Monday. Just out of the blue, he asked if I was free and that he wanted me to go with him for a business discussion in Melaka. We went at 1PM and reach back in KL at close to 7PM. Tiring trip.

The fever got worse yesterday but I feel completely ok today after the medication. And, I cant take any form of medication in the day unless I’m at home because I will fall asleep. Yes, I mean ANY MEDICATION. Terrible huh?

Today, the cough got worse.. I’m coughing uncontrolably. Sigh. I want to get well soon.

Its a real short week - 4 days. That means lost of 8 productive hours. Here’s what I have done for the week, other than the regular 8am - 8pm work ..

Went to Nikko Hotel twice
The first was for the launch of Serena Brasserie, and the second was today for a site inspection. We had buffet in those two sessions - now I feel like a big fat ass. It will take me forever to shed off the extra calories I’ve consumed!!

Went to Yaki Yaki restaurant
The name suits the feeling I had when I was there … “YAKS”. Highly not recommended no matter how cheap it is.

Went to an organization (can’t mention due to corporate privacy reasons) to pitch for an event
My subordinate went together with me because our senior sales manager couldn’t make it. I did my research prior to the meeting, and everything went pretty smooth. After the meeting, my subordinate said that I was a liar… haha.. I’d not go into details

Review meeting with principal
You can’t imagine the anxiety I feel for this meeting - its like meeting up with your secret admirer for the first time. I always have butterflies in my stomach, no matter how prepared I am.

Made an initiative to meet the representative in Middle East, Europe .. blah blah
It was a sharing session - which was quite fruitful. I have a few things in mind for APAC now… hehehe

Had a big argument over the smallest thing
Even the smallest thing can become like a volcano if not managed properly. And Singaporeans are real kiasu no matter how close the person may be to me. Proven.

Started the “Fruit Eating Program”Four of us in the company agree to chip in RM1 a day to purchase fresh fruits for our own consumption. Leading towards a healthier lifestyle.

That’s all about it… I think Tomorrow, I’m picking mum up and we are going for a little shopping trip.

I did not dissapear. I merely stopped blogging for a while because of my job commitments.

Since late 2008, I’ve been very caught up with work - devoting 120% of my time for my job, as I try to accelerate my career growth. My hard work has paid off, with my spanking new title and bigger role & responsibilities. Now that I’m where I want to be, I have to also put in additional effort to carry out the responsibilities I have.

So many things have taken place in the last few months other than changes in career. Hubby and myself have also sold off our apartment and decided to rent a house temporarily while looking for a suitable home to make our own. We are in the process of packing up and moving out by next month. Other than that, I’ve also learnt how to play squash - I never knew its such a fun game, no matter how silly I may look while playing. At the end of the day, I enjoy the game.. which is the most important thing afterall.

On my hamster collection, I have 6 now after one died. I still keep them in 3 separate cages to keep peace in the house. My friend’s hamster died after a short illness. The problem with hamsters is that they are too tiny to treat at times. Though sad, we have to accept this.

I bought additional insurance in the last few months as well - doubling what I have. Now, I am spending a cool RM600++ per month on insurance. This amount is equivalent to the installment I’m paying for my Savvy. Why the sudden decision? One of hubby’s friend was diagnosed with cancer suddenly, and it was a wake up call for me & hubby on the importance of insuring ourselves sufficiently. Both of us upgraded our insurance - so now we have a HUGE bill for insurance.

What else is new? Hmm… Nothing much really other than the above. I’m still planning on a family vacation but I’ll have to plan it to be end of 2009 because of job commitments (again!). I initially wanted to travel to Gold Coast in mid-March for the Internet Marketing Conference but I had to put it off because of initial plans for All Soul’s Day (chinese prayers for ancestors). Anyway, it was clearly impossible to take so many days off from work to travel to Australia. I’m married to my job!

I’m putting blogging as one area for me to improve on. I have a few domains that I still need to figure out what I want to do with - and I believe it will come in the next one to two months. Keep watching

I read with interest this artical from InformationWeek , that discusses the topic on how many employees should travel together, in the wake of the US Airways crash.

Many years ago in my previous company, there was a company annual trip to Sarawak which required all of us to travel by air to the destination. My boss told us all to break the entire group into two and we booked different flights for the two groups. At first, we were all surprised by this move because we preferred travelling in one big group - as it will be more fun! When we asked why - then the boss told us that in event (touch wood) anything happens, there will still be half of the organization that could keep the business running. That was the first time I heard of such reasoning and second time in the latest reading.

I don’t think many companies have this policy, and with the many organizations arranging annual company trips, I see this as an important measure to have to ensure continuity of business in case of an emergency. Even colleagues from the same department should take different flights because if one entire department gets into one plane and something happens… the organization will lose the entire ‘department’. Hmm…

At work, I now have larger responsibilities and I am fully responsible for all actions taken by those reporting to me. Because of that, I’ve set very high expectations on the marketing execs and also the design team. And from Monday onwards, I’ll have the Asia Pacific support to be under my call as well. In view of that, I have to ensure that all of them instill strong discipline so that they can function even without my strict supervision. I don’t believe in using fear as a method to make sure they finish their task, however I’d like to motivate them to work harder for themselves.

Its not easy being a boss. I have to maintain my cool even when the roof is falling off, and solve all the problems that they bring in. Having said all that, i myself am not perfect. Today, I was confronted by the boss for saying ‘the wrong thing’ to our principal. I just told him - that’s why I wanted us to discuss before we proceed to do the presentation, but you are never available for us to discuss. He just kept quiet. Sometimes, I understand the frustrations of those who have bosses above them, so I try not to replicate what my boss did to me. I planned the entire marketing plan till 2am in the morning, worked out all the probabilities, revenues, ROI.. and then he told me that I shouldn’t disclose this… But then earlier on he told us that if we don’t elaborate our plan, they’ll not support us financially. ???? Sometimes bosses can be very confusing. All in all, I hope I can be a clear-vision boss to all. Say one thing, and mean it. Don’t change my mind like the way I change my clothes. Don’t let anger overcome me. Never allow emotions to overtake my rational thoughts. I need to make sure that my staff remain comfortable so that they can perform the way they should.

Sometimes I symphatize with them - because other than my orders, they still have to take orders from my boss (those I report to). Because of that, they get overloaded and sometimes lost. They dare not say no and dare not voice out their thoughts. I have to learn to manage the marketing team better, because I know that marketing is very much into planning, strategy and execution. In a small company like ours, we dont have the luxury to specialise in one specific marketing function. Its all-in-one. And with 2 companies and 3 different divisions - its a real challenge for me. Having to be on top of it all… and still having one division for myself to take care. Wow….

All in all, I love my job to bits. Like the geomancer said - its not the situation, but rather its your personality that brings you to this situation. What she means is that I’m the ‘fast-paced’ person and that I love the adrenalin rush in this job - so she asked me not to complain coz that’s the actual me! Hmm… I have to think about that….

Hubby and colleague decided that we should go to Genting Highlands to do the 2009 new year countdown. As it was a super peak period, the hotel was going at RM230 per super deluxe at First World Hotel. Its double of its usual price. Anyway, because of the special occasion, we booked two rooms.

On 31st Dec, it was a working day for all of us, thus we only left KL at 9:00pm and reached Genting at 10:00pm. Because of the amount of traffic, we only managed to get a carpark at close to 11:00pm. Then it was a long wait to check in to First World Hotel, which is reputed to be the hotel with the most rooms. Yes, with 6,000 rooms - this is amazing. And, the most amazing part is that it is fully booked - from First World to other affiliated hotels. After checking in and settling down, we rushed to the place where the fireworks will be lighted up. We were late, so we could only watch from inside the buidling. There was a mountain of people outside and it was impossible to even get out of the buidling. So, we just settled for the view inside the building.

Went to the Monte Carlo casino and lost RM30 .. haha .. The place was smoky because of people smoking. It was uncomfortable so we left. Had a quick supper and went back to sleep. By the time we reached our room, it was 3am. And I couldn’t sleep without bathing, so I took a bath, watch tv and read some magazines before sleeping. The next morning, we woke up at 8am and headed for breakfast at the hotel. The amount of food they prepared is enormous. This is the first time I’m staying at First World and the huge amount of accomodation available does make the place feel a bit cheap, even though its rated 3 star.

We left at about 2pm, and visited the temple on the way down. We prayed and took some pics of the place, which is really nice. It rained, so it was really cold - temperature at 15 degrees. We reached home at 3pm after having a light lunch.
