Not Dengue…
It all started with the fever on Wednesday that lasted till Friday. I went to see the panel doctor at office, which immediately suggested that I do a blood test to determine whether it is dengue or not. I was already having some of the symptoms but brushed it off because I never imagined that I would get dengue (common mentality of most people that they will not be the ‘chosen’ one). The doctor said that fever that does not subside and body ache & pain is one of the first symptoms of dengue.
Here are some of the symptoms of dengue :-
- High fever (104 F, 40°C)
- Chills
- Headache
- Red eyes, pain in the eyes
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Deep muscle and joint pains (during first hours of illness)
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea and vomiting
- Low blood pressure and heart rate
- Extreme fatigue

He gave me an MC and I went home after informing my superior about it. She was shocked, so was I. I headed home at 9:30am on Friday. I waited till about 11:00am when the doctor called me to inform me that it was not dengue… *fuh* What a relief… My first thought when he mentioned the word “dengue” is the medical bills. These days, its a sin to fall sick if you do not have cash - and I shudder at the thought of taking money out of our savings, which we have saved so hard. Suddenly, I recalled that I have a medical card - and yes - it will cover part (if not all) of the medical expenses. The last time I heard a friend’s mother admitted to the hospital because of dengue, the bill came to an astonishing RM7,000! That’s heck a lot of money - enough to buy hubby a brand new Sony A900. WAHAHAHAHA… Now I realise how important it is to part with close to RM300 every month for my insurance policies.
I still feel like as though I’m hit by a truck, but at least I’m glad that its not dengue. The doctor said that it could be a viral infection. Arggh… that means I’m going to be unwell for a couple more days before I’m really well. My muscle & joints ache like crazy, and a cough hurts my stomach muscle very much. Fever is no more for now, and headache very minimal but the cough is getting worse.
This must be because of all the stress I’m going through. Its been turbulent moments for me of late, with my career choice at stake and fighting with things that I cannot change. I’ve learnt to accept them, and waiting for better things to come so that I can move on.
Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to Chinese New Year - all the CNY deco I’m going to put up, the ‘fishes’ I’m going to make with the angpow packets, spring cleaning (I’ve started doing this!), new pillows (we just bought two)… hopefully a new sofa set (though hubby is making hell a lot of noise about this… haha), the angpows we are giving (painful but joyful to give) and all the goodies that is sure to make me fatter by a few kilos.
