Nice country, ugly behaviour

Malaysia is a very beautiful country, being blessed with fantastic greeneries, picturesque islands and cities - among other attractions.

However, all these are smeared by the ugly behaviour of the people living here.  When I see how impatient people are on the roads - some people think that they whole world must stop for them to move on.

It is a surprise that such a nice country like ours, and where people are said to be ‘friendly’ in the eyes of tourist are actually not like what it seemed at all.  I am not generalizing that EVERYONE has the same ugly behaviour, but what I see and experience everyday is enough to tell.

And, no one is spared from this ugly behaviour - be it man, women, teenager, irrespective of race & creed.  If you are one of those who fall into the below category, do stop and think for a while…. are we creating an ugly society among ourselves?

Ugly Behaviour ( strictly no-no )

  1. Cutting queue - if others can wait in queue, why can’t you?  I remembered my school teacher teaching us to queue… have we all forgotten those lessons?
  2. Must be first - Can’t you wait for your turn?  Everyone else does, why can’t you?  So what if your car is more expensive than mine - does it matter?
  3. Show-off - I know your sports car can make the “vroomm” sound loud and clear, but hey… when naked, you probably have what I have as well.
  4. No signals - Malaysian car makers should probably come out with cars without signal lights, since no one bothers to use it anyway.  Oh yes - they use it at the wrong time… especially when it rains and you see all the hazard lights on.  Hello??  You know what a hazard light is for?
  5. Honking - If you love to honk so much, why not go to a quiet place and honk all you like?  Driving in KL is like driving in a big maze.  We are not cutting into your lane on purpose… we came out from a slip road, so if we don’t try to get into the main lane, we probably have to drive in the drain instead.
  6. Jump red lights - Do you know what a red light is for?  Probably some people will only learn their lesson when they meet with a nasty accident, or probably knock someone down.
  7. Speed speed speed - It doesn’t matter what car you have.  Speeding dangerously and trying to ask left lane cars to drive fast is crazy.  We are in Malaysia, not in US - so the left lane means slow traffic not vice versa.
  8. Tailing - If you love to smell the butt of my car, tell me.  Cause tailing is not going to make me move my butt any faster.  And yes, if you kiss my butt … you pay!
  9. Creating extra lanes in tolls - There is a reason why people queue up to wait for their turn.  Creating extra lanes causes confusion for those who reach there later - and having 10 lanes going into one isn’t going to help ease congestion - all thanks to you.
  10. Cutting in and out - We are not doing any weaving projects, well if you want to, I can recommend you to put your weaving skills to good use.  I know you have fantastic driving skills, but as the Malay saying goes “Sepandai tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh ke lantai juga” - you won’t be lucky all the time.  And if you want to endanger other people on the road, please remember that it could be someone’s mother, father, son or daughter.  If you don’t want others to put danger into the ones you love, do the same.
